Nordinkraft's Open House in Germany
During the upcoming week, from February 7-8, our partner Nordinkraft will be hosting an "open house" at their headquarters in Remchingen, Germany, Schauinslandstrasse 16. This event offers an excellent opportunity for those interested in gathering information about their latest equipment.
The main emphasis of this equipment lies in the detection of hard spots, which, being invisible to conventional UT or X-ray techniques, can lead to the development of microcracks during pipe production. These microcracks, if undetected, have the potential to compromise the integrity of pipelines, leading to incidents or even explosions.
Inspecting steel plates for "hard spots" (HS) is a prerequisite imposed by most energy companies on steel plate manufacturers. The most effective method involves using eddy current (EC), specifically pulse eddy current (PEC) probes, which are generally sensitive to areas with abnormal hardness.
However, a notable challenge with EC or PEC probes is the inevitable residual magnetization of plates, causing false indications. The demagnetization process is both expensive and time-consuming.
Nordinkraft has pioneered a unique test technology based on what is known as "multifrequency analysis." The corresponding algorithms enable the suppression or neutralization of the adverse influence on the inspection results.
This technology is founded on the generation of current pulses in PEC probes, with the base B complying with the condition: B = dFx dT >1. The process involves Fourier transformation of the received signals and subsequent analysis of their low, medium, and high-frequency spectral components, each responding differently to hardness and potential test-interfering factors.
The PEC probes are specially designed with an almost closed magnetic circuit around the test object, ensuring high stability and sensitivity in the EC test.
The automatic testing equipment for plates, built on this technology, can be enhanced with phased array UT probes, along with their respective test electronics and software. This configuration allows for the simultaneous testing of plates for both hard spots and laminations, aligning with modern standards and specifications for the EC and UT of steel plates.
